Gloria Marcott is the founder and CEO of Soul Punch™, leading the largest women-led safety movement in the world. A survivor of childhood abduction, law enforcement veteran with 18.5 years of service, and multi-patented entrepreneur, she’s training #1MillionWomen in self-defense, leadership, and scalable safety systems that work in the real world, for real women, right now.

    Q. You were abducted at 12 years old from your bus stop. How did that experience, combined with another safety incident in your twenties, shape your decision to create Soul Punch™?

That 12-year-old girl learned something most children shouldn’t have to: the world isn’t built to keep us safe. It’s built to react after we’re already hurt. Then in my early twenties, after another personal safety defeat, I hit a breaking point. I was done being a statistic. Done feeling powerless. Done accepting that this was just how things were.

So I started training myself, not in some dojo practicing forms for years, but in real tactics that actually work when you’re terrified, outnumbered, or caught off guard. That decision changed everything. It wasn’t just about learning to throw a punch. It was about rewiring my entire relationship with safety, from victim to victor.

When I entered law enforcement, those 18.5 years gave me something theory never could: real-world validation. I saw what worked and what didn’t when seconds matter. I learned how predators think, how situations escalate, and most importantly, how women can take back their power with the right tools and training. Soul Punch™ was born from all of it. The trauma. The training. The truth that women deserve better than what we’ve been given.

    Q. Soul Punch™ is described as “a multi-tiered, tech-integrated, trauma-informed safety ecosystem.” What exactly does that mean, and why was a traditional self-defense class not enough?

Traditional self-defense assumes you have years to train, a gym membership, and the physical ability to overpower an attacker. That’s fantasy for most women. We’re juggling kids, careers, and exhaustion. We need something that works now, not after a black belt.

Soul Punch™ is an entire infrastructure. Our 2-hour classes use neuroscience to teach techniques your body will actually remember under stress. We integrate smart devices like our Soul DefendHER™ pepper spray that connects via Bluetooth, sends GPS alerts, and creates evidence trails. We’re building DefendHER™ Rides, a rideshare platform where safety isn’t a feature, it’s the entire service, with trained women drivers and 24/7 monitoring.

This isn’t about teaching women to fight. It’s about creating a world where they don’t have to.

    Q. The Soul DefendHER™ device seems revolutionary. Can you walk us through what makes it different from traditional pepper spray?

Picture this: You’re walking to your car. Something feels wrong. With traditional pepper spray, you might fumble with it, maybe get it out in time, maybe not. Even if you use it, then what? You’re alone with an angry attacker and no backup coming.

Soul DefendHER™ changes the entire equation. The moment you activate it, several things happen simultaneously: A 130-decibel alarm screams, that’s jet engine loud. Tactical strobe lights disorient the attacker. GPS coordinates go out to your emergency contacts. The device starts recording everything. UV dye marks the attacker for later identification. And if you have our premium monitoring, live dispatchers are immediately alerted.

It’s not just pepper spray. It’s a complete response system that turns a moment of isolation into a connected, documented, tactical advantage. We’re not teaching women to spray and pray. We’re giving them a dispatch system in their pocket.

    Q. Your Train the Trainer and Safety Advocate programs are creating a network of women leaders. Why was building this ecosystem of instructors so critical to your vision?

Because while one woman teaching in one city is powerful, a network of trained leaders turns that power into a movement. Real change requires scale, and scale requires leaders. Every trainer we certify becomes a force multiplier. She’s not just teaching techniques; she’s building income, leading her community, and proving that women can be both protectors and entrepreneurs.

Our trainers aren’t martial arts masters who’ve spent decades in dojos. They’re real women, mothers, executives, survivors, who complete our certification and immediately start changing lives. They earn through classes, device sales, and building their own safety businesses. We’re ahead of our goal of 100 trainers by end of 2025 because women are hungry for this.

The Safety Advocates take a different path, they’re speakers, educators, system builders who work with universities, corporations, and communities. Both create a web of protection that didn’t exist before. We’re not waiting for institutions to save us. We’re becoming the institution.

    Q. DefendHER™ Rides launches in Q4 2025. How does this reimagine the rideshare experience through a safety lens?

Every rideshare company treats safety like a feature, panic buttons, driver screening, maybe some tracking. We flipped it. Safety IS the service. Every driver is a certified Soul Punch™ trainer or advocate. They’re equipped with Soul DefendHER™ devices. They understand trauma-informed communication. They’re connected to 24/7 monitoring.

But here’s what really changes the game: Empowered Routing™. While other apps optimize for speed, we optimize for safety. Our system routes around high-crime areas, identifies nearby safety anchors like hospitals and police stations, and uses predictive modeling to avoid threats before they happen.

This isn’t just about being by women for women.  This is about building an entirely new transportation infrastructure where both riders and drivers are protected, prepared, and powerful. When a woman books a DefendHER™ ride, she’s not just getting from A to B. She’s moving through the world inside a safety ecosystem that has her back.

    Q. You’ve been featured across major media and reach 230 million impressions monthly on social media. How do you balance being a public figure with the very personal nature of your mission?

I made a choice early on: I wouldn’t hide behind corporate speak or sanitize my story. When I talk about being that terrified 12-year-old or surviving another attack in my twenties, it’s not for sympathy. It’s for the woman who’s living it right now and thinks she’s alone.

Those 230 million impressions aren’t just numbers. They’re women saying, “That happened to me too.” They’re parents asking how to protect their daughters. They’re survivors finding hope. Every feature in Fox or Glamour, every viral video, it’s another crack in the wall of silence around women’s safety.

Being public means being vulnerable. But if my visibility helps one woman realize she deserves better, if it connects her to resources that could save her life, then every moment of discomfort is worth it. I’m not just building a brand. I’m building a movement. And movements require faces, stories, and someone willing to go first.

    Q. SafetySphere™ LIVE and Empowered Routing™ represent significant technical innovations. Where did these ideas come from?

From frustration with how reactive everything is. We have weather radar that tells us about storms hours away, but nothing that warns women about danger zones in real-time. SafetySphere™ LIVE changes that, imagine a weather channel but for safety. Live crime data, threat assessment, red zone overlays, and me doing tactical Q&A. It’s the first tactical livestream for women’s safety ever.

Empowered Routing™ came from my years in law enforcement, knowing that certain routes at certain times were just asking for trouble. But civilians don’t have that intel. So I built the system that does. Our navigation system pulls live crime data, identifies safety anchors, and uses predictive modeling to route women around danger, not through it. Waze gets you there fast. We get you there safe.

These aren’t just cool features. They’re acknowledgments that women have been navigating danger with blindfolds on. We’re taking the blindfolds off.

    Q. What’s your vision for the #1MillionWomenTrained movement, and how does it extend beyond individual safety?

This isn’t about creating a million fighters. It’s about fundamentally shifting how society approaches women’s safety. When a million women are trained, equipped, and connected, we stop being easy targets. We become an infrastructure of protection that didn’t exist before.

Each woman trained creates ripple effects. She teaches her daughter confidence instead of fear. She advocates for better lighting in her parking garage. She refuses to accept “that’s just how things are.” She builds income through our programs. She becomes unshakeable.

The real vision? Making Soul Punch™ obsolete. Building a world where my granddaughter won’t need what I’m building because we’ve already changed everything. But until that day, we’re creating the safety net that should have existed all along. Not asking permission. Not waiting for someone else to save us. Building it ourselves, one punch at a time.

    Q. Looking back at that 12-year-old girl at the bus stop, what would you tell her?

That this isn’t the end of your story, it’s the beginning of your purpose. That the system that failed you will become the blueprint for the one you build. That every setback, every sleepless night, every moment you felt alone and wanted to give up was forging you into someone who could change everything for millions of women.

I’d tell her she’s going to take the worst day of her life and turn it into a movement. That she’ll build tech that saves lives, train women who become warriors, and create the protection she desperately needed. Most importantly, I’d tell her what I tell every woman now: You are not broken. You are not a victim. You are a force of nature waiting to be unleashed.

And we’re going to unleash it together.
